Well, That's Stupid!

My kids have a bedtime of 7:30. Tonight they both fell asleep early, and my dear aunt called. She chewed me out for putting them to bed so early (7). Apparently "they" say kids need 8 hours a day of sleep, any more is bad for them. She couldn't tell me who "they" were but I laughed heartily at her expense, and thought you guys might get a giggle too.

Leaky disposable diapers

My son leaks through his luvs disposable diapers every.single.night. for the past 2 weeks.
How do I stop this?!
I've tried pampers overnights, one size bigger diapers but not yet huggies.
My son is six months old, and 20 pounds, 26 inches long.
It's really hard to find a diaper that fits properly.. luvs fit the best out of the pampers.

Hefty Zoo Pal cups

My 6 year old's class is having hot (warm) cocoa Friday while watching Polar Express. I am bringing styrofoam cups for them, but was wondering if anyone thought the Hefty Zoo Pal Cups are good for warm drinks?

http://zoopals.pactiv.com/ZPCups/index.htm

I figured the lids would help with spills and they would be cuter.

Any other ideas? The teacher requires disposable for easy clean up.

hi everyone ;)

lately i've noticed my 10 month old daughter never wants to stop eating. she's half breastfed and half formula fed, but lately she's been eating whatever her 2 year old brother is having. she seems to be adapting to "human" food very well, but it's almost as it she's never satisfied. has anyone been in a similar situation? how should i handle this?

also, i've noticed that she's EXTREMELY clingy. she always needs to be in my presence or held by someone. she doesn't want to play on her own, play with her brother, or even settle down enough to watch a movie. she needs to be in arms at ALL TIMES.

help =/

First of all, I want to say thank you to all the ladies who commented on my last post (about my mom calling me fat). I haven't had a chance to get back on LJ since I posted, so it's been awhile, but thank you!

Secondly, I have a question. I checked the tags and didn't see anything, but I don't know all the pregnancy terms, so I might have missed something. I've gotten pretty used to the feeling of the baby kicking, so I know what it feels like, but right now I'm having that feeling REALLY low, like I can feel little *thump thumps* in my vagina, or atleast what feels like the vaginal canal. I don't really know how to explain it. Is it possible for him to be kicking that low? Or is that something else I'm feeling? Is it something I need to be worried about?
And since I probably won't be able to get back on here in awhile, just want to say thanks in advance. :)

edit And I totally forgot to add, in case it's necessary, I'm 21 weeks.

In my local news...

This story is very disturbing. I'm concerned about those moms in this community who have mentioned severe depression during pregnancy, and I wonder if that's what this woman was going through?

Fetal Movement

I'm trying to post here so I don't have to go through a lot of effort to borrow the car if it's nothing :) I am 30 weeks 5 days.

How often should the baby move? I think she's moving a less recently, and I know that's bad, but I'm not sure if this is all in my head or not. Should she be moving every few hours? After a meal? Whenever her active time is? I'm probably going to end up calling my doctor anyway, but this feels like the same sort of anxiety I had for awhile after I first read the symptoms for preterm labor :P

Ultrasound Technician vs. Orange Juice

Monday was my 20 week ultrasound. We really wanted to be able to find out the sex of the baby, and I had read that drinking orange juice before the ultrasound would make the baby more active. I wanted it to be active, so we would be sure to see all necessary parts, so I drank a small bottle of OJ on the way. I do believe the ultrasound technician wanted to kill me. :) The baby - a BOY! - would not stay still at all! He was all over the place, making it really difficult for the tech to get the pictures she needed. Oops! But we were definitely able to see that he is a boy.

It was so surreal to watch him there on the screen, going absolutely mad, and not be able to feel it. I think I felt him today, but it's still so subtle that it may just be gas. If he's that active all the time, I should probably enjoy NOT being able to feel him!

Question about vaccines....

I am following the Dr. Sears vaccination schedule. My 4 month old had her DTaP and rotavirus vaccines at 2 months. She was supposed to get Pc and HIB at 3 months, but she has been sick off and on for the last month and I didn't want to do that to her immune system while she was already feeling yucky. SO, now that she's 4 months, do I give her the PC and HIB and wait till 5 months for the second DTaP and rotavirus, or do the DTaP and rotavirus and wait until 5 months for the PC and HIB??

I would ask my ped but she definitely would not know. When I told her I wanted to do this alternate schedule, she was more than confused, and when I asked her how much aluminum was in our Canadian brands, her head almost exploded. True story. (her husband works for a pharmaceutical company, go figure)

Perfect Baby Age

Inspired by a couple of threads/comments on earlier posts.

Do you think that your baby's age is "perfect"? Is his/her age "perfect" for you, neither too young or too old? Would you rather have an older or younger baby? Why?

My sitch:

Pro:
My kid is perfect for me because she's the BEST BABY IN THE WORLD, at any age.

Con:
None, my kid is THE BEST. I guess the "con" is for you, that your baby isn't MINE.

Help me out.

I need some guidance and opinions of other parents on this matter. I'm stuck in a position that I never wanted for me or my child.

I'll cut, in case it's sensitive for other people

Regarding absent parents and step-parents )

So, do I wait until she's older and have this conversation, so that she'll have ways to cope with it and understand it. Or do I tell her now and have her growing up knowing that Mike is her stepfather and there will be no bombs dropped on her when she's old enough to understand what is going on?

potty training

So every morning now for the past 2 weeks, my daughter has taken to telling me that she needs to go pee pee on the potty when I am getting her dressed in the morning to go to daycare. So we go into the bathroom and I sit her down on the potty, and she goes. Every mornng without fluke.

She's has her little potty since she was a year old, and sometimes sits on and sometimes not. I've been meaning to start potty training, but keep pushing it back, and pushing it back, and some days she wants to and other days she doesn't....up until now. At daycare, her teacher allows her to sit ont he potty whenever she wants to...somedays she goes other days not.

Now, I can tell she is "senseing" when she needs to go (as evidenced by her standing up in the bathtub the other night during our bath and saying Mommy I need go pee pe" and then doing it right there and by the first morning two weeks ago when she told me she had to go pee pee when I was getting her dressed......

So Christmas break is coming upon us and I have time......what next steps would you take?

Oh a few notes....
-- We are travelling to my in-laws and will be there ALL of next week. I can take her potty or potty seat that goes on the regular toilet.
-- I *would* do the bare bottom thng, but, as I said, we will be at my in-laws and I don;t think they would *get it* about her running around bare-bottomed.
-- we do have PLENTY of "big girl" panties, but right now she is in Pull-Ups/diapers as I figure out what to do........

Brief freak-out (my first!) and some nursery pictures.

Up until this morning, I have had the easiest, most stress-free pregnany EVER (I'm 35 weeks today). Then this morning, Mr. Hyper-Active totally refused to move. For HOURS. I went to the hospital and got checked out (scaring my mom and husband to death) but of course he's fine, looks like he just overslept. :-) WHEW!

And on a less dramatic note, here are some nursery pictures!

The plan was to find a set I liked at Babies R Us, buy all the little pieces, stick them in the guest room and call it good. But then of course my husband fell in love with a set that was discontinued so very few pieces were available, and I fell in love with a crib that didn't have any matching pieces... so the end result is very... um........... "mix and match". In the end, we were happy with anything brown and/or dog-related :-)

The nursery, more or less completed!

Pictures!! )Read more... )

Restaurant high chairs

How do you decide when your kid can sit in the restaurant high chair (those wooden ones that seem to be standard issue)? Obviously size and a certain amount of sitting unassisted play into it...but *what* size and how full of win do they need to be at sitting?

I thought of just using duct tape on a regular chair, but I'm a sensitive soul and cannot handle the glares of people who don't know that it's perfectly ok.

Re: Question ...

Ok so my DH and I are about to start IVF treatments at the end of this month.

Now I have a question, thanks to someone else's question on the same topic.

What happens if you are already dialated before you are even pregnant?

Apparently I'm like 1cm or something...now I was told this a couple of years ago, I think...but if I still am, how does that effect my pregnancy?

For those of you with kids in a daycare of some sort - are you giving your provider a gift?

My son has the BEST family daycare he attends. It's a husband & wife and her mother - and they are the best, best, best. They love the kids like their own - they are smart, organized, active, friendly, warm, down to earth - it goes on and on. I would like to get them something nice...in brainstorming mode. I do a lot of shopping on Etsy, but I don't think anything etsy works here...

Does anyone have this rocker... http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2002&e=product&pid=48213 ?

Ellie is 5 months old and it's already turning into a piece of junk. I called fisher price and they're going to give me my money back, but I wondered if anyone else was having problems with it.

Also, does anyone use the playtex ventaire bottles? All of the writing came off of mine and they started to leak out the bottom. We only used them for 2 months. Ugh... What bottles don't suck?

MMR

Does anyone know where I can purchase the MMR vaccine separately? Merck says they only make the combo shot these days.

TIA!
